Author’s Biography

Karen Odden earned her PhD from NYU, writing her dissertation on Victorian literature and history, and subsequently set all her mysteries in 1870s London. Her sixth novel, AN ARTFUL DODGE (Soho, 2026), about an all-women thieving gang, was given a starred review by Publishers Weekly and called “Historical crime fiction at its most authentic” by Kirkus. Her work has been nominated for the Agatha, Anthony, Derringer, and Lefty Awards and was chosen for the Best Mystery Stories of the Year in 2025 and 2026. She serves on the national board of Sisters in Crime, teaches writing workshops nationally, and divides her time between Arizona and Utah, where she loves to hike while plotting crimes.
