Virtual – The Midday Book Club: Read “Deacon King Kong” by James McBride *For Adults
February 22, 2022 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Join the conversation as we discuss Deacon King Kong by nationally acclaimed author James McBride.
In Deacon King Kong, McBride “brings to vivid life the people affected by a shooting in a south Brooklyn housing project: the victim, the African-American and Latinx residents who witnessed it, the white neighbors, the local cops, the neighborhood’s Italian mobsters and the shooter himself. At once a mystery story, a crime novel, an urban farce and a sociological portrait of late-1960s Brooklyn, Deacon King Kong tells a broader story of race and religion, getting by and getting out, and how grudges and alliances become embedded in the foundations of our neighborhoods.”
We’ll have some copies of the book at the library or you can order it from our online catalog.
