Illustrator’s Biography

I grew up in Munich, Germany and studied graphic design at the Fachhochschule Augsburg. A career in feature animation at Warner Brothers and Dreamworks first brought me to the UK and finally to the US. Visual storytelling, the exploration of emotions, psychology, and history have always been at the core of my work.

The first picture book I illustrated, While Mama Had a Quick Little Chat, was written by Amy Reichert, published by the legendary Dick Jackson books, and was a Fall 2005 Book Sense Pick and a recipient of a Parents’ Choice Award. Since then, I have illustrated numerous books, including the New York Times #1 bestseller She Persisted: 13 Women Who Changed the World, as well as its companions She Persisted Around The World, She Persisted in Sports, all written by Chelsea Clinton. These non-fiction picture books celebrate women who spoke up and rose up and show us how one person can make a significant difference in the world.

The Max and Marla book series marked my debut as both author and illustrator. It explores friendship, kindness, overcoming fears and adversity. But wait! Here we are. It’s 2021!! This year is filled with exciting new projects which I cannot wait to share with you all. Several of my titles have been translated into different languages. She Persisted, The Musical was the first to be translated to stage. My work has participated at various exhibitions in the US and Japan. I live in Northern California with my husband and daughter.
